The last two operational Tomcat squadrons arrive at NAS Oceana for their homecoming following their six month deployment to the Gulf onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. This is the last time that 22 Tomcats will ever fly together. VF-213 will transition to the F/A-18F Super Hornet whilst VF-31 will end Tomcat operations in September 2006 when the aircraft is finally retired from active service with the US Navy. The end of an era.
164345 Can it get any lower and better? The display crew of VF-101 Grim Reapers is taking off, gaining speed and keeping the Tomcat low, please note the distance above the RWY. A stylish way to say good-bye to the display Tomcat, as VF-101 is due to disband soon.
164345 This might have been the last crew to display the Tomcat, as the (display) unit VF-101 Grim Reapers is due to disband. It looks like there is a small camera in front of the WSO (backseater), will we get an IMAX movie featuring a display Tomcat?
162345 Taxiing the flag this might have been the last display by a Tomcat, unit VF-101 Grim Reapers is due to disband and at this time it is not assured, that there will be a display Tomcat in 2005. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this is not true. The display at Nellis was great, especially the low take off on Saturday, Tomcats forever!
